Well, the Boomers had a long and adventurous day yesterday. We went to bed around 5pm, but woke up around midnight. Awake and bored we decided to take a midnight stroll. To our surprise the town was alive and and hopping. The tangle of cobblestone streets were full of people and the shops, restaurants and bars were still open, well most of them. We wandered the streets, stopped and got some gelato, then wandered some more. Finally made to the town square and it was full of people and scooters. The night was alive! Stopped in a Celtic Bar for drinks and food. Yeah we traveled all the way to Italy to eat in an English Pub LOL! OH but the fish and chips were the best we ever had, we will eat there again. Had some drinks and wandered the cobblestone maze back to our room.
After breakfast I went online to see what the top attractions were in Sorrento. #3 was to go Bagni Ragina Giovanna, an ancient ruins of a Roman Villa and swim in pools at the base in the sea. The article said about a half hour walk from Sorrento. Not sure where in Sorrento they started but it wasn't from the center of the city where we were. It was 4.5 miles, uphill with a tiny sidewalk about halfway then we were walking on the narrow shoulder with a wall on the side. Did you remember how I said they drive?? It took way more than a half hour and I try not to think about how close the cars were that passed us while we were walking. It was all uphill until we got there, then it was a long steep cobblestone walk down to the sea, which we would have to return, unless we gave up hope and just drowned ourselves once we got there. This was no sandy beach, boulders and moss cover rocks had to be traversed to get in the water. But it was amazing once we were in the water. It's easy to go to a beach but to say you swam in the pools of a Roman Villa was awesome. The death march back up had numerous rest stops, but we went out a different way and found a bus stop. I love busses now LOL!
Dinner and a little shopping and back for an early night. Early cruise in the morning to the Isle of Capri and the Blue Grotto.
Ciao!
