Long travel day awaits us. With the airlines cancelling flights at an alarming rate, my anxiety rises with each passing moment. Flash backs of our flight from Chicago to London keep popping in my mind, the constant alerts on my phone, "flight changed" "flight changed" "flight changed"...... then "flight cancelled"! After an angst filled phone call to Delta, they rebooked us on a British Airways flight, a direct flight, with amazingly nice flight attendants and decent food. Note to Delta and other US airlines, have British Airways hire and train your staff. All was well for our trip to the United Kingdom, well almost. After watching the luggage carousel at Heathrow slowly empty with each passing, it was clear that Delta still had my suitcase, somewhere other than here. Surprisingly, three days later a delivery company brought me the suitcase to our hotel in York. Note to self for this trip, no checked bags! Go light!! We tried to figure out how so many people travel with just a backpack. Numerous attempts to pack everything into our backpacks, trying to figure out what was or wasn't needed for a three-week trip. The best result had us looking like we were being attacked by an obese baby black bear. The sheer weight making us so top heavy that the fear of teetering backwards down an escalator felt like an inevitable reality. So back to suitcases, we are able to fit everything nicely in a two small, wheeled carry-ons and backpacks. I will have to manage without my pocket handkerchiefs and a good many other things before we reach our journeys end. At least we were able to leave the steamer trunk at home for this trip and that's an improvement. Afternoon flight to Atlanta then a red eyed flight from Atlanta to Rome, 10.5 hours and arriving at 8:50am.
Ciao!
Or possibly "Hey it's us again writing to you from Atlanta". Hopefully it's not the latter.
