Italy - Sorrento/Capri - Day 4 - Stephanie

Today we were up early for our boat cruise to the island of Capri and to go into the Blue Grotto.  Michael was our captain and he was great!  He took us to places that the other charters did not, and as he said “Free”!  The Mediterranean Sea is stunning!  The water so clear and blue, and the saltiest body of salt water I’ve ever been in.  The water temperature was perfect for floating and soaking up the sun.

It was a boat race to Capri to get in line for the Blue Grotto.  Mike got us there first!  It was a hurry up and then wait for the row boats to arrive.  Unfortunately the sea waves were too big making it unsafe for anyone to go into the Blue Grotto.  What a let down!  But we did see some other beautiful sites that Mike took us to.

On Capri, Kevin and opted to rent a scooter.  After being in the traffic on Sorrento, we were both a bit leery to rent scooters.  Capri traffic was much lighter, but still you had to be on your toes and be extremely aware of the other driver.  We didn’t really enjoy it, though the breeze was nice, and have opted not to rent scooters in Sorrento.

During the boat trip one of the boat’s two engines died.  Mike had to limp the boat back to Sorrento on one engine.  Kevin jokingly asked how many paddles were on the boat – one.  So much for paddling back if that engine died!  The owners of the boat made up the “inconvenience” by buying us a bottle of champagne and 2 bottles of white wine.  We really didn’t mind the slow trek back to Sorrento – it was more time to soak up the beauty of the environment.

I do not have that many photos today – woke up this morning to a phone with only 27%, after I thought the charger had been charging it all night.  Sadly, I never plugged it in all the way.  But you can get a good idea of how beautiful the area is from the photos I do have.  And then, there are only so many photos you can take of water and shorelines.

We made it back to the room, hot and tired.  Shower time and then nap time.  After a couple hour nap, we went back to the pub with the awesome fish and chips to eat fish and chips.  After dinner we waked the town some, very little tonight.  We are both beat and ready for an early night.

Not sure what is in store for tomorrow.  Maybe catch a bus to ride the Amalfi Coast?  We don’t know yet.

Chow!
