"Italy" - Kevin

Well, the flights went like clockwork, hooray for Delta airlines.  Customs getting into Italy was very simple, sadly I know it's not going to be that easy or quick coming into the states. Our cell phones that AT&T was supposed to have added an international plan onto were not working.  I sadly have become way too reliant with the great Google God for information.  But the boomers we are, at least we have some non-digital skills to figure out how to survive. Got some train tickets that would get us to Rome and then to Naples.  Some small confusion on which platform and train to take to Rome but we just jumped on a train, and it worked.  Once we got to Naples our lack of having the great Google God to help us find transportation to Sorrento was truly a loss. Standing outside the train station looking at a sea madness of cars scooters and busses or what they call everyday driving. We had no clue on which way to turn. After scratching our heads for a while, it was time for Boomer power!! "Hey taxi how much for a ride to Sorrento?" The guy looked a little shocked, that someone would take a taxi that far. He gave us a price and we agreed.  Yeah, that Boomer power isn't cheap, but it works. Fasten your seat belts kids, this is our first lesson in Italian driving techniques.
Technique #1: Road signs are a mere suggestion at best. We almost slowed down once at a stop sign, all the others must have been written in a language foreign to our driver.
Technique #2: Show no fear. More than once our driver told us "Don't Look!". When someone says that it's mandatory that you look.  He would either be driving on the other side of the road or forcing someone onto the shoulder.
Technique #3: Size matters.  It's a dog-eat-dog world out there.  Scooters being the smallest and are quite adept to filtering through the traffic, but the cars have little respect for their safety. Taxi vans, like the one we were in put fear into everyday drivers because routinely he would force the smaller cars out of his way. But busses rule, their sheer size makes all the drivers give way.
It becomes quite clear why some many racecar drivers come from Italy.
In Sorrento now, had a nice dinner on a cliff overlooking the ocean.  Phones have been sorted out, well maybe but they kind of work now. Exhausted is an understatement, calling it an early night.
Ciao!
